Carers Strategy 2026-2029
Fife Health and Social Care Partnership is currently refreshing its Carers Strategy, setting out how unpaid carers across Fife will be better supported in the years ahead. This strategy recognises the vital role carers play and aims to ensure they have access to the right information, meaningful support, and opportunities to maintain their own health and wellbeing alongside their caring role.
The refreshed strategy focuses on five key priorities, informed by carers’ voices and experiences:
Information
Ensuring carers can easily access clear, accurate, and timely information about their rights, support services, and available resources. This includes helping carers understand what support is available and how to access it, including Adult Carer Support Plans and Young Carer Statements.Co-ordinated Support
Improving how services work together so carers receive joined-up, person-centred support. The aim is to reduce the need for carers to repeat their story and to make accessing help simpler, more consistent, and more responsive to individual needs.Breaks from Caring
Supporting carers to access meaningful breaks from their caring role. Regular breaks are essential to carers’ wellbeing and sustainability in their role, and the strategy recognises the importance of increasing access to flexible and personalised short break opportunities.Early and Upstream Identification
Identifying carers as early as possible so they can access support before reaching crisis point. Early recognition ensures carers are informed, supported, and able to maintain their own health and wellbeing alongside their caring responsibilities.Supporting Young Carers
Ensuring young carers and young adult carers are supported to have a positive childhood and young adulthood. This includes helping them balance caring with education, social opportunities, and personal development, while recognising and valuing their caring role.
Carers’ voices are central to shaping this strategy.
