How Activities Can Help Prevent Dementia

A carer’s role is hard work, but it can also be very rewarding. It gives those you care for support they couldn’t manage without and can help them feel more like themselves and less isolated.  One disease that is increasing across the UK and adding to the burden of carers, is dementia.

Right now, over 850,000 people suffer from dementia, and that number is expected to rise to some 2 million by 2050. While research is ongoing into curing dementia, there are also ways to prevent the disease and slow the development of the condition.

Two of the most important ways to help prevent dementia are:
•  Eating a healthy diet, full of fresh fruit and vegetables and low in processed foods and sugar.
•  Doing regular exercise that keeps you moving and that you can do more than once a week – every week.
But they aren’t the only activities people can undertake in the fight against dementia. Others are:
•   Doing mentally challenging puzzles.
•   Socialising.
•   Learning a new skill, such as a language or musical instrument.
•   Playing board games.
All of these activities are accessible to most people and enjoyable too. Read this detailed guide to discover more dementia prevention activities.
