FAQs
how do I register as a carer?
There is no Carers Register. If you are providing unpaid help & support to a family member, friend or neighbour who cannot manage without your help because of their illness, frailty, disability or addiction, then you are a carer.
Your GP practice may have carers register and you can ask them to include you on it. It's also useful to ask how they help carers. If you are caring for someone and live in Fife it will be very useful for you to get in touch with Fife Carers Centre.

What is a carers support plan (formerly carers assessment)?
A Carers have a legal right to an assessment of their own needs if they provide, or intend to provide a substantial amount of care on a regular basis. A carers support plan is an opportunity to discuss your caring situation and the sort of help that you need with caring. You can also discuss any help that would maintain your own health and balance caring with other aspects of your life, work and family. If you already known to Social Work you can request that they help you with this. If you are already referred to Fife Carers Centre and think a Carers Support Plan will be helpful for you please contact us to work with you on this. If you are an unpaid carer in Fife and not already known to Fife Carers Centre you can refer yourself.
