Often carers don’t recognise themselves as being a carer and they might need someone else to point it out for them -
this could be you!
Carers are usually just getting on with things, doing what needs to be done and don't always know help is at hand.

If this sounds like you or someone you know Fife Carers Centre can offer practical help and support.

You just need to make a referral for the carer and it's an easy and straightforward process.

Referring a carer

Fife Carers Centre supports adult carers over the age of 18 in Fife. Anyone can make a referral to Fife Carers Centre – it could be the carer themselves‚ the person they care for or anyone they come into contact with.

It's a very quick and simple process -

Just follow these steps:
  1. Identify the carer - they're the person who you'll be referring rather than the cared for person.
  2. Get the carer’s permission to refer them
    (verbal permission is fine).
  3. Contact Fife Carers Centre with the carer's name and contact details.

or to make it even easier you can make the referral by filling in the contact form you find here.

What happens next?
  • A carer support worker will contact the carer within 5 working days of  the  referral being made.
  • The carer support worker will find out from the carer if there is anything in particular they
need help with for example completing a carers assessment, benefit forms or finding out about how to arrange respite care.
  • An appointment will be arranged to meet them either in their own home, at Fife Carers Centre or anywhere else that’s convenient.
  • We’ll then work with them to help and support
them in their role as a carer in whichever way is best.
It doesn't matter if you are caring for a child or adult we can help you.   You might not feel you need help at the moment but getting in touch now gives you the chance to find out about the help available to you in Fife and may help you to avoid a crisis in the future.

How can we help you?

Keeping  up to date with what we have going
on:

You can find out more  about what we’re up to by following us on Twitter and Facebook and check out our newsletter here or ask to have one posted out to you three times a year.
Take me to the Newsletter!
We aim to be a “one stop shop” for every carer in Fife – if you are a carer we can help you with:
General Information
We can help guide you with lots of information about everything from your entitlement to benefits, why it's so important to have Power of Attorney to information about the condition affecting the person you care for.

Information about benefits and entitlements
We help with getting the right ones for you and the person you care for as well as looking for grants that
might be available for helping support your caring role.

Workshops and Information Sessions
We run free to attend information sessions
throughout the year to help carers learn more about the condition affecting the person they care for or some other aspect of their role of carer.

Carers Support Planning
we help you complete a Carers Support Plan to identify the ways your caring role has impacted on your life and what you would like to do to about
it – then we'll continue to work alongside you helping you to achieve your goals.

Centre Drop In
During  Centre  opening hours carers can drop in for information and a chat.

Emotional Support
Carers can find themselves feeling that they have no one to talk to about their worries or how they are feeling.  One of the most valued services we provide is that of giving carers the chance to talk openly and honestly about how you feel about your caring role and the  things you are finding difficult - we listen to anything you have to say without  judgement.

Peer support.
Being with other carers often means you don’t have to explain how things are for you, you can talk openly and you can hear how others have dealt with similar situations.  In addition you can have some social contact and relax amongst friends.  There are a few groups that offer this kind of support and these ones listed are those we are involved in.
